Happy Bonfire Night 2025
Guy Fawkes Night, also known as Guy Fawkes Day, Bonfire Night, or Fireworks Night, is an annual celebration held on November 5th, mainly in Great Britain, featuring bonfires and fireworks displays.
Its origins date back to November 5, 1605, when Guy Fawkes, a member of the Gunpowder Plot, was captured while guarding explosives placed beneath the House of Lords by conspirators aiming to assassinate Protestant King James I and his parliament. To mark the king’s survival, people in London lit bonfires around that time. Several months later, the Observance of 5th November Act officially established an annual day of thanksgiving to commemorate the thwarted plot.
Our UK Office will be celebrating this evening with some toffee apples and sparklers.
