UK’s Hottest May Day Continues to Break Records
Staff at the PDDG UK Office have been melting into the pavement the past few days as the UK experienced record-breaking temperatures across the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
The UK has set a new record for the hottest May day for the second consecutive day, with temperatures in parts of London climbing above 35C/95F on Tuesday. A provisional high of 35.1C/95.2F was recorded at Kew Gardens in southwest London, surpassing Monday’s record of 34.8C/94.6F, which was also set at the same location.
Wales also experienced a second straight day of record-breaking May temperatures, with Cardiff’s Bute Park reaching a provisional 32.3C/90.1F, edging past Monday’s 32.2C/90F record recorded at Hawarden Airport in Flintshire.
Before these latest record-breaking highs, May’s previous warmest day in the UK was 32.8C/91F in 1922 and 1944.
