California Awards $48.5M to Drive Economic Growth and Create 20K New Jobs
Governor Gavin Newsom recently joined leaders from Solano County, Cal Poly Maritime Academy, and the California Jobs First Bay Area Region on Mare Island to announce $48.5 million in funding for 18 projects across eight economic regions and 33 counties. The investments are expected to support the creation of 20,000 direct and indirect jobs and represent the latest step in more than four years of regional planning, project development and strategic investment through the California Jobs First Regional Investment Initiative.
The latest round of Regional Investment Initiative funding awards focused on aerospace and defense, advanced manufacturing, high-tech, shipbuilding, space and satellites, and quantum, including the following:
- Aerospace & Defense: $3.95M to strengthen research, innovation, and workforce development in the Southern Border Region.
- Advanced Manufacturing: $17.75M to advance manufacturing and biomanufacturing innovation, supply chains, and workforce development in the Central San Joaquin and Capital regions.
- High-Tech: $1.94M to expand infrastructure, workforce training, and business funding in Inland Southern California.
- Shipbuilding: $8.24M to strengthen innovation, workforce development, and coordination across the Bay Area’s shipbuilding network.
- Space, Defense & Satellites: $6.85M to support business attraction and expansion and accelerate the industry ecosystem in Kern County.
- Quantum: $9.74M to strengthen workforce development and regional collaboration across Southern California.
