Major Data Center Project Approved Near Maricopa
Pinal County’s Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a land-use amendment that clears the way for a new data center just south of Maricopa. The vote marked the third data center project the board authorized during their meeting. The other two projects are planned near Picacho Peak State Park and east of Stanfield.
Tempe-based W Holdings intends to develop a 500-acre Energy Generation and Technology Campus northeast of White-and-Parker and Teel roads, bordering the southern edge of the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The proposal includes a data center, a battery energy storage facility, and a natural gas power plant.
According to Court Rich of Rose Law Group, the project carries an estimated $10 billion price tag, split between construction and equipment. He said the development is expected to generate 1,000 permanent jobs in the region.
PDDG has partnered with the City of Maricopa for more than two decades on a diverse range of projects including the city’s branding, which is widely recognized nearly 20 years later.
